Buterere Community Garden – January 2017

The garden at Buterere is now fully planted and growing! This new project is located on a one hectare (2.47 acres) parcel of land, in the Buterere neighborhood of Burundi’s capital city Bujumbura. The preparation for crops is now complete, our donations of tools and seeds are distributed, and the garden is ready to support 70 families per year.

We supplied the rice seeds, and had an agronome (agriculturist) assisting the families to ensure they are planting their precious seeds correctly and in a way to best optimize their return. The participants will grow the crops for sustenance and income, and keep a portion of the crops as seeds to pass to the next group. They will also pass knowledge, training, and tools to the next participants.
